I really enjoyed this, Alan. I’d also be curious about your thoughts on how important (or not) it is to have friends who share and can relate to your professional interests.
You can find colleagues who support, empathize, and reinforce your professional interests, so your friends need not. And I’ve always found it a bad idea to have the preponderance of your friends in your profession. That’s creating a lot of exhaust in the room.
