Forget about Mensa, which claims its membership has the top 2% in IQ (I’m a life member and I can assure you that claim is as real as the Loch Ness Monster), you’re in the top 1%. Why? Because you’re probably reading this in the pursuit of learning and development, you’re probably a member of one of my several communities besides this one, and you’re either successful at what you do or seriously aspiring to be in that condition.
Here’s who else is out there.
A guy named Don, whose soul title is “owner” without indicating of what, who puts his BS degree after his name (perhaps because it stands for something else), with a few other totally unrecognizable initials, who can’t write a grammatical sentence, and who sends ALL email priority (!!!!), tell me this:
He’s upset with my free Monday Morning Memo newsletter, because he doesn’t agree that my topics are important and relevant for him. (Small wonder, they’re about personal improvement and the world around us.) So he insists that I change them.
When I tell him that, with tens of thousands of subscribers on a FREE newsletter, I’m not about to make changes based on his singular and idiosyncratic feedback, he proceeds to call me names! He has now sent his fourth, ungrammatical, looney email questioning my intelligence, customer service, right to own the cars I drive, and stubbornness for not doing what he demands.
I told him to unsubscribe, and he said he would (goldarnit) but he still is writing.
That’s your competition. Relax and don’t worry.
