London Redux

London Redux

Arrived smack on time on Virgin Air. Security in Boston took all of 60 seconds, and immigration and customs at Heathrow took 90 seconds. Virgin gives you an express pass which is even faster, apparently, then having an EU passport. We had to find our driver amidst 50 or so holding signs (one doing so with his teeth, thank goodness not our driver), and The Stafford had our penthouse suite ready for our 8 am arrival.

We visited Harrod’s, enjoyed high tea at the hotel, and made some additional reservations for the week. I have a separate office in the suite, sort of a corner nook, which is great for writing.

I’d love to say I’m having withdrawal signs from Olympic curling competition, but I’m not! (I think Apolo Ohno is terrific, but going crazy over seven medals is a bit much when Bonny Blair won five golds and a silver.)

I’ve engaged a cartoonist, and in the next month you’ll be seeing a weekly strip here called “The Adventures of Koufax and Buddy Beagle.”

A Virgin Air express pass is much faster than having an EU passport. You can be waiting for up to 15 minutes with an EU passport, the fast pass is about 3 minutes max.

Alan, I hope London treats you well, It seem like you are in good hands so far.

If you make it to the casino, do let me know if they have a decent craps table, I went to Vegas two weeks ago for a 3 day conference (lsitening only for me)and it’s great to pay an enthusiastic game of craps.

I’ll be surprised if you don’t have some good cutomers service stories from you visit here.

The club is small compared to casinos, but they do have craps and I’ve played there. Except for a few places, customer service in the UK is pretty awful compared to the States. Most of my colleagues who live here agree.

Oh I so agree – the customer service is so bad here, you couldn’t make it up – the service in the States was fantastic. Just look what happen to transport in London when it snows !

I’d be shocked if you don’t have your meals planned for the trip and you probably have some favourites to re-visit too. I also know un-solicited advice is never high on your list – but if you are stuck for a meal maybe worth visiting the Michelin 2 star Pied a Terre /www.pied-a-terre.co.uk or it’s sister that I actually prefer L’Autre http://www.lautrepied.co.uk

BTW – every time I have found a craps table in London – no body is playing on it. Where is the fun in that?
