Modern Times

Modern Times

Comedian Louis C.K. asks why we complain about airline service when we’re able to sit in a chair and ride in the sky. I’ve heard people complain that their cell phone call to London, while walking down a street in New York in the rain, has poor reception.

I’m at the Jersey Shore, and there’s always traffic on the Garden State Parkway. Yet today we have air conditioning, zillions of music choices, iPads to occupy the kids, and GPS if we choose to take a detour. Our parents and open windows, cars that overheated, and kids yelling, “Are we there yet?!”

We can deal with clients today remotely via technology, create instant graphics and visuals, have meetings online, and create passive income. We don’t have to deal with unanswered phones because we have voice mail and text and Instagram. We can build out brands globally sitting in our homes.

Complaining is simply an exercise which diverts energy from productive pursuits to self-pity. It’s not big on my list of investments.
