Overwhelm

Overwhelm

“Overwhelm” is the new designer condition. It’s been transmogrified from a verb into a state of being. “I’m in overwhelm.”

It underwhelms me.

We all have time in the day (since time use is at our discretion) to work on three priorities. A priority is a result we seek that is far more important than other results that we might seek. (Hence, if everything is a priority, nothing is a priority.) The result may be total (obtain acceptance of my proposal) or partial (complete writing the first half of chapter 3).

Overwhelm, as a concept, creates a vicious cycle of inactivity. Thing pile up like all the stuff you throw in the attic or basement because you’re not sure what to do with them, and then you can’t remember where you put them when you do need them.

Distill out your three most important results on any day. Achieve them, and then you can move on to other things.

Or take the rest of the day off.
