RIO: Rhode Island Oddities

Rhode Island is more a state of the mind than a state of the union.

People in Rhode Island give directions based upon landmarks that no longer exist. For example, if you ask for the location of a new restaurant, you’ll be told: “Go down about a mile to where there used to be a Shell Station, turn left, and go to the road that used to ‘Reynold’s Street,’ then go two blocks and turn right where there used to be a stop sign. The restaurant is right across from the bakery that burned down about ten years ago.”
