Shortcuts Lead to Poverty

Shortcuts Lead to Poverty

The amount of spam and scam on the internet is bewildering. (I remember the great song from the play Avenue Q: “The Internet Was Made for Porn.”) My conclusion is that there are sufficient amounts of people responding to Nigerians who claim to have a fortune to provide you, Slovakians who claim that you have an inheritance, Indians who claim their SEO magic will boost your business, Czechs who claim your trademarks will be protected if you send them money, and women who are home alone and waiting for men to come on over.

If they weren’t making money doing this, would they be bothering to send out email and tend to the responses?

How can we have so many clueless, or desperate, or lazy people in the world to constitute this customer base? Of course, we still have people who have graduated from college thinking that it’s a deal to get in on the sixth level of a pyramid marketing scheme (excuse me, “multi-level marketing”!).
