Stop Overanalyzing

Stop Overanalyzing

I’ve had people “interpret” things I’ve written in a way that has nothing to do with my meaning or intent. One person accused me of writing self-effacing humor as a way of bragging that I’m smarter than everyone else! Say, what?

A job candidate for a client position I was interviewing said to me, “You clearly don’t like me,” within 60 seconds of our introduction. “Why do you say that?” I asked, bewildered. “Because your arms are folded,” he pointed out, as if he were Freud reading body language (which I find VERY unreliable). “Well, you’re partially right,” I said, “since NOW I really don’t like you.”

Accept things on face value and be neither cynical nor suspicious unless you’re given clear reason for it. Most of the time, what you see is what you get.
