The Fin

The Fin

We were waist-deep in the Atlantic when my wife and I saw a fin about 20 yards away. It looked small. “Stingray” someone said, but stingrays don’t have dorsal fins. I know there are bluefish here which are plentiful, and they have a mouthful of teeth. I figured it was too small a fin for a shark, but then what about a baby shark?

All day, people claimed to see fins and think they were dolphins. But dolphins have to come to the surface to breathe, and this fish didn’t.

As I was thinking about it, I found myself standing on the beach.

Just getting around to reading this, and it may well have been a sand shark. I used to catch them all the time surf-fishing as a kid. From Longport to Cape May, they were everywhere. Nubs for teeth, so get back in the water next year.

Good to know, that makes a lot of sense. They hustled people out with the blue fish swimming buy, but never budged for the larger fin!
