Air Cover

I’m doing some writing and looking out into the back yard. A squadron of crows lands in the trees, jet fighters, combat air patrol. In the distance, I see a hawk, a light bomber, circling the area.

Then, I first feel and then see the slow flapping wings of one of our eagles, heavy bomber, cruising through the area.

The ground forces comprise Bentley, racing through the snow like a demon.

There isn’t a squirrel, varmint, or even small bird in sight. Then the crows depart in unison, the hawk circles away, the eagle reaches the next tree line, and Bentley returns inside. The squirrels peak out of holes in the trees, and small birds appear from nowhere to populate the feeders.

Threats are seldom permanent, coercion never long-lived. Life goes on.
