I’m repeating this from my Facebook post on August 3, our 50th wedding anniversary. We’re in Nantucket, as we always are this time of year, and we planned nothing special because for 50 years, every day has been special.
50 years ago today, I was thoroughly enjoying the moment of our wedding, not knowing what might be ahead. And today, I still thoroughly enjoy each moment, not knowing what might be ahead. I would not be the man I am without Maria who’s provided me and our children with great love, care, and unselfish support. She loves to laugh and I still love to hear her laugh. Unfortunately, I’ve given her a lot to laugh about! But she’ll pack her bags at a moment’s notice and off we go on a new adventure. In a few hours we’re off to Nantucket, and later to South Africa, and later to Marrakesh. I found her six blocks from where I grew up, and she hasn’t been able to get rid of me since. She told me she married me because she knew she’d be able to own two pair of shoes.
