Of Dogs and Consultants

The Dog Star is a symbol of power, will, and steadfastness of purpose, and exemplifies the One who has succeeded in bridging the lower and higher consciousness.

—Astrological Definition

Dogs are tripartite. They have common dog characteristics, such as a keen sense of smell,  the ability to learn certain jobs or tricks or habits, and compatibility with humans. They also have breed characteristics. Beagles will tend to run away and roam. German Shepherds love to work and play because they need exercise, and are highly trainable. Finally, they have individual (personality) characteristics. Our white Shepherd, Koufax, chased and killed prey with frightening efficiency. Our while Shepherd, Bentley, will chase anything that moves but will not kill a thing, often winding up in the middle of a flock of startled ducks.

Consultants, as a profession, should improve the client’s condition, act ethically, and expect equitable compensation for value delivered. Within specialities, they should build a strong brand and become known for expertise in finance, or IT, or organizational chance, and so forth. Finally, as individuals, they should focus on their particular strengths, be they speaking, writing, networking, creating new models, language capabilities, and so on.

Unlike cats, dogs are highly diverse and make the best of overall talents as well as individual strengths. I’m waiting for consultants to catch up with them.
