How to Become Thoughtfully RuthlessSM and Catapult Your Growth
by Val Wright
When you want to prepare for a marathon, you hire a trainer who has a few marathons under their belt. It applies when leaders hire external experts; they are investing in you, not your processes and your methodology. You become an inspiration and accelerate their business by becoming a role model for them. So you need to be hitting your own personal records in your personal performance.
The most successful leaders and consultants outperform their peers by being Thoughtfully Ruthless with how they manage their time, their energy, and their resources, in parallel. To catapult your client’s performance, you have to practice what you teach and be Thoughtfully Ruthless yourself.
Beyond your existing expertise whether it is financial, marketing, or sales, you can also take them into the express lane for how they accelerate growth, by coaching them directly and helping them become more Thoughtfully Ruthless.
Here are four ways you and your clients can immediately become more Thoughtfully Ruthless:
- Create your daily silence
Tweets, buzzes, likes, beeps and notifications come from every device every second if you let them. Press the mute button, unplug, and create daily silence to give yourself time to think and imagine.
- Check your battery levels.
Your energy is infectious. It isn’t hard to find overwhelmed, exhausted, and downright miserable people in organizations. So why would a leader want to invest in an external expert with the same mindset? Are you bringing unbridled optimism and endless possibilities for your client or are you moaning about your long flight, your crazy workload and how hard life is? Your energy levels are contagious either way.
- Divorce your friends
Let go of the mediocre in your life. If you dread that dinner with friends or family outing, don’t go. Don’t wear your old relationships around your neck like a millstone you can’t remove. Toss it off and go and have some fun with people who energize and inspire you.
- Learn to become brilliant at demonstrating your brilliance
In a world where everyone is on a permanent virtual stage with the whole world watching and reporting every move it is not enough to simply be brilliant; you need to be brilliant at demonstrating your brilliance.
