I notice that Bentley will eschew a dog bed to lie on the hard floor of the hallways, particularly at intersections. At first I thought this was just to be a nuisance, or part of a game, or some kind of alpha dog behavior.
But then I remembered our terrier, Phoebe, use to plant herself on a step leading from one floor to another, where she would just fit. And I realized that this is a way of ensuring that the dog doesn’t miss anything. They are in the thick of it, tough to get by them or escape notice, so that they can join in the next activity once you are ambulatory.
I wonder how many of us are so adept at locating a place in the thick of our prospects and clients, so that we can detect their direction and intent, and become a part of it. The client may not think they need a consultant along, but then again, Bentley seems to believe that 100 percent of my activities requires canine company.
