Alan,
Have you ever read Psycho-Cybernetics by Maxwell Maltz. If so, what did you think?
No, I haven’t, sorry.
Just curious. He just had an interesting take on dealing with poor self image.
Maltz was a plastic surgeon who noticed that often times drastic cosmetic changes had little to no effect patients their self-image. They continued to see themselves as having too big a nose, too large of ears and that people were still laughing at them, etc.
The overlying message was that you have to ‘see’ yourself doing something ‘in the theater of your mind’ first before you could ever pull it off in real life.
If you can’t imagine yourself one day being a successful independent consultant or if you can’t see yourself quoting a client $75,000 for a project then you never will be.
I agree. A great many average (or less) looking people think of themselves as wonderful to be around. And if that’s what they think, they’re right.
